You could down load a Cloudera VM Player from Cloudera web site. Probably you need min 8GB RAM on your Laptop, but I recommend 16GB. It comes with latest Hadoop (with YARN) to practice.
I started from downloading Apache hadoop from skratch in my linux based syster
i take help from apache.org to get best result and i leaarn lots of things from apache as well as from cloudera
Use Hue Tool and you able to practice with any language and doesnt required any installation
Firstly you need to have sufficient configuration of minimum 8gb Ram then u download vmware ,wincp,Putty these three applications will help your practise ,Then later on you goto cloudera because then you will enjoy more hadoop.
First of all you need to create Virtual machines in your Laptop (Use VirtualBox OR Vmware). Just follow the instructions on this blog for Single Node and Multinode Hadoop setup.1) Single Node Hadoop Cluster: Running Hadoop On Ubuntu Linux (Single-Node Cluster) - Michael G. Noll2) Multinode Hadoop Cluster Running Hadoop On Ubuntu Linux (Multi-Node Cluster) - Michael G. NollYou can also use Hadoop Quickstart setups from other service providers like Cloudera and Hortonworks. 1) Hadoop Tutorial 2) Hadoop Tutorial - YDN 3) Hortonworks Sandbox
on virtual machine u have to instal ubuntu in that u have to instal hadoop2.x
First of all your Ram should be above 8 GB and you should have Virtual machine installed and after that install environment in which you want to work like Hive,Pig or something like that. They will you a real experience of working on data and hadoop clusters.
I will guide you to visit www.MAPR.com and download a sandbox VM. MAPR also provided free tutorials to get started.
I will tell you the easiest way. specially if you want to go into hadoop administration,
1. Install Ubuntu on your laptop,
2. Make an account on AWS and you get free tier free of cost for 1 month or 750 hours.
3. AWS cloud so that you dont have to worry about your local machine because everything you do in on cloud now.
Now go to apache's website(open source distributor of hadoop) and learn about all the nuts and bolts of hadoop and there you will get the entire scrip of how to learn hadoop.
Good luck mate.
you just need to know few basics of linux, java to become a hadoop administrator
