For a complex project what is the longest period you have allowed for a supplier to come back to you with a proposal?

I personally believe that depends on the requirement of business. If the project is crucial & timelines are not the barrier, the supplier can work thoroughly & take about 2 weeks or so. However if time lines are critical, alternate solutions may be sought if the selected vendor is taking too much time to respond & the query should be closed in 2 weeks.

In my case it was about a month. What I had request, demanded the supplier to travel abroad, to analyse and to be 100% accurate to what he was about to propose. Of course, the tollerance of one month was already forecasted into the project's timeframe plan.

A piece of advice: In case of complex projects, try not to make a tight timeframes and give time to involved individuals. Any lack because of time pressure, will come back to your head later.

3 days ^^ . For some people this can be short. If the supplier knows that you are a good client, and you also know they have a good policy in providing equipment around the world in less than a week, you can get a lot of things/replies in a short time.

Each Transaction of RFP should be raised under closing date, thus will be defining based on evaluation.
