(How can we recognize them?)
A bad candidate is worse than "No candidate"!
Organizations spend time, money, energy into recruitment strategies and designing selection filters to hire the right candidates.
Despite the framework, some non-competent/ culturally-unfit candidates manage to seep into the system (organization). These are Bad hires.
They are like pathogens; can negatively influence employees within the organization and/or not perform their tasks which results in productivity loss.
They will eventually need to be advised to leave the organization.
This is a good and useful question, I wish to find acceptable answer
Bad hires may include candidates of many categories. Those who pick up training and development efforts rather loose rather with lackluster approach. 2, those who bahves unresonably with clients, shareholders and collegues causing loss to the company.
3rd categories may be those who do not pay attention to the work, avoid attending meetings, remaining absent minded in compnay meetings or irrate other staff.
A "bad hire" tends to be someone who cannot perform the full requirements of the role; who does not "fit" with the culture/ethos of the organization; potentially it is someone who misrepresented themself at interview and unfortunately the recruitment process was not robust enough to weed out the candidate.
Always make sure to do reference checks, implement and properly monitor the probation period and if problems are being highlighted either put a development plan in place or terminate within the probation period.
