Hiring process in most companies takes too long and with many unecessary procedures. Is this a good practice for growth of business?

official analysis shows the length of tme most companies spend in the hiring process is too long... to a pont that the candidate chosen is no longer available...

in which case many managers/ division heads of companies signifies slow down in their operation output and productvity due to lack of manpower... HR practitioners areStubborn boxed in with their processes and procedures that are proving to be counter productive and efficient and no effort to improve this, modify and simply to cut losses.

I think taking too long and unnecessary procedure is waste of time and unproductive. I think they do it that way when they do not have immediate openings otherwise quicker I feel so. Thanks

No. Hiring process should be precise and quick. Define the requirement and put a timeline for helping interested candidates to apply. Sorting and Interview calling procedures should be monitored and complete with a time frame.

Such process not only creates a good image in employees mind but also give a good vibe about company in the market.

I agree to to mr. jetley list views.. I believe there should be a process to follow to make systematized procedure.... the step 1 to 5 are standard process.... but the amount of time and lagging that happens at step 6 to 9 often create a probllem and opportunity losses that is often overlooked or ignored by most HR or management.... what can you say about this?

It is correct, the process of hiring is preset however there are certain elements that need to be addressed:

  • Assess your current staff turnover, identify weakness and strength
  • become pro-active within the organization and/or operation in order to setup provisions and potential future needs
  • Acquire a detailed understanding of the needs and of the potential vacancies in order to address the right candidates
  • Develop synergies with other industries to exchange information and potential candidates as necessary. (This is a strength and not a weakness)
  • Define the prerequisites and set the accurate benchmark with regards the vacancy;s profile. After all the objective is to find the right person for the right job.
  • Get the candidates to evaluate their own competency in accordance to the described vacancy, this would save time, while HR ought to learn and evaluate between the lines.
  • Predict, Prepare, and Execute by utilizing available information and statistics. Develop communication with the R&D departments, keep an eye on the market and its trends, maintain a valid data bank of potential candidates at all time.
  • Work smarter rather than harder

Yes, The hiring process often take time starting from collect the resumes up to call candidates for interview , select candidate and finally signed the employment contract but that's should be depends on several factors like for example but not limited the job natural, job category, business industry, management style, HR reaction based on business need....etc.

I have no experience in hiring, but from a neutral perspective I can say that it is indeed a cumbersome process and the companies in my opinion are justified in taking long to hire a candidate. We need to understand that the companies invest time, effort and resources in looking for the right candidate. The onger it takes the more resources in terms of manhours they lose. So it is their utmost priority to keep it short but on the other hand they need to be sure they hire the right candidate as every employee can be critical to the future growth of the company. So the companies have to go through hundreds of CVs and interview lots of candidates before being sure that they have the right match. So it is a time consuming process.
