Working with children in need of special support is emotionally and mentally exhausting at times. You try your best to find ways that work, and sometimes it takes a long time before you see results. At the same time it is so rewarding when you find something that really works for this child. Try to always have an open mind, and find someone you can talk to about your frustrations and fears without breaking confidentiality.

Some children in need of special support are hard to communicate with. It is hard to find solutions if you don't have a two-way communication established. Try the most common ways first; sign language and pictures usually works good as they add some visual support, making the communication less abstract.

Some parents have a hard time accepting and dealing with their children if there is a need for special support. The families often need to have a lot of support from the school. At the same time you gain on having a good relationship and communication with the family to see how you can optimise the environment for the child.
