Hello Team,

Labor that is defined as being an alternative or opposed to morale has no place in ethical society. Moreover, from a managerial perspective - even in a capitalist setting - it is counterproductive: Low workforce morale can lead to reduced performance, lower work quality, compromised customer delivery, absenteeism, increased turnover, and other undesirable behavioral consequences.

Regards,

Saiyid

Morale is a state of mind which involves feelings and emotions.  Created within each employee, it is often considered an elusive quality.  It involves the attitude and perception towards the job, work environment, team members, managers and the organization on a whole.   Positive employee morale is usually exhibited by confidence, discipline and willingness to perform.

There are no single factors that explain high or low morale, but rather a combination of related factors.

In today’s economic reality, the root cause of low employee morale can include job security issues, uncertain business conditions,  limited upward mobility, a perceived lack of fair compensation and excessive outsourcing practices.

In such an environment, employees focus more on their career choices, a sense of personal well-being and financial future.

Warehouse Management is Essential to Improving Supply Chain Operations

Online sales continue to increase as consumers seek additional convenience and savings. During the fourth quarter of 2012, ecommerce purchases rose by 11 percent from 2011, and a recent Forrester Research study estimates that online transactions will reach $370 billion by 2017.

This growth represents an ideal opportunity for retailers and other businesses, but also requires significant changes to supply chain management. Supply Chain Digital reports that warehouse management systems are becoming essential to maintaining streamlined and efficient distribution networks. Only by tracking and monitoring purchases, freight movement, order fulfillment and more can companies make the necessary adjustments to inventory to account for various shifts in the market.

Flexibility will be a key factor for success in the near future as the speed of business continues to increase. The source notes that social media is having a significant effect on customer behavior and could lead to spikes in demand. For instance, trending topics on Twitter may increase sales of clothing, technology or even food, making it necessary for organizations to maintain additional inventory to maximize sales. Organizations that are able to account for potential swings in demand and have the infrastructure to supply the merchandise could see strong gains in customer loyalty.

Reacting to the Market

Technology is helping businesses control their inventory more effectively. Warehouse management systems connect every aspect of the supply chain to accurately account for product movements. The real-time information they generate allows managers to make better decisions about purchases, shipments, staffing levels and more to improve the productivity of distribution centers.

BX BusinessWeek states that centralized warehouse management systems can be incorporated into other business functions. This increases the automation within distribution centers and eliminates the manual work of processing forms, tracking returns or billing vendors. The information from one department is automatically transferred to another, allowing supply chains to operate more effectively and react faster to market conditions. Allowing various departments to view the same data enables businesses to improve their forecasting strategies. More input from various sources could offer insight that help organizations successfully predict trends.

Retailers that identify and note trends are able to adjust their supply lines accordingly. By eliminating bottlenecks and other inefficiency, companies can streamline the order fulfillment process, which will be more important as ecommerce continues to grow. In addition to the convenience of online orders, customers want fast and reliable delivery. With a larger number of destinations, shipping could potentially create significant costs, but good transportation management can help businesses generate value from distribution.

Handling Returns Effectively

Knowing where to focus company resources is an essential part of maintaining control of the supply chain. A survey by the Boston Consulting Group found that an overwhelming 74 percent of consumers wanted affordable shipping over fast delivery. Making decisions aimed at lowering shipping costs may help businesses increase customer satisfaction.

One area in which businesses could see additional improvement is reverse logistics. Supply Chain Digital notes that as online sales have increased, the number of returns warehouses handle has also gone up. Greenbiz.com estimates that most online retailers see between 20 and 30 percent of their purchases returned. Since customers are unable to see or try merchandise, they often buy multiple products with the intent of returning several. The source estimates that 70 percent of returned electronic devices do not have anything wrong with them.

Large numbers of returns may actually provide businesses with additional opportunities. A study by MIT Sloan Management Review found that customers make a large number of repeat purchases from stores with lenient return policies. Returns are a central part of customers’ experiences, so companies need to address any issues they have with the process. Policies should be clearly explained on company websites and need to be easy to understand. The study recommends that businesses go out of their way to remove obstacles to simple returns in order to maximize their profits.

Maintaining Visibility in the Supply Chain

High levels of returns mean that warehouses need multiple operating strategies. The same facility must smoothly handle incoming and outgoing products, so maintaining visibility is an integral part of supply chain operations. Having an integrated management system can help improve transparency of distribution networks. Product information is maintained in a centralized database that is accessible to all departments. Sharing inventory information could allow businesses to adjust strategies to capitalize on trends or deal with regional discrepancies. Products selling successfully in one region may indicate the potential for large sales in another if supported by promotions or discounts.

Regional strategies further increase the need for strong transportation management. Keeping stores and distribution centers properly stocked requires good coordination between purchasers, shippers and warehouse managers. Each of these sectors can be integrated with a comprehensive warehouse management system to share information about current inventory and boost the efficiency of the entire supply chain.

Coclusion : Both of the two answer are have to be side by side combined in harmony integration (Labour and Morale)

In management where people are involved in deciding the function of system, both labour power and Morale should go hand in hand. Because Labour power without morale should impact productivity at work whereas high morale with lower workforce will result in higher stresses resulting in again loss of productivity. Hence both should be looked into equally.
