Let's first explain what are English idioms , they are a group of words which have a meaning which isn’t obvious from looking at the individual words. They have developed over time and so they might seem random to you. English idioms often rely on analogies and metaphors. Because they’re used so often in everyday English, if you don’t know them, it’s almost impossible to understand the context. For me personally I graduated from oxford language school and had a ESL certificate , I took traditional classes, learned the grammar, the rules, and hundreds of exceptions, I have a vocabulary that could rival an British  student’s. I even have a couple of certificates  stating I am indeed proficient in English. But sometimes I just can’t get English idioms. Well, that's because what we learn from textbooks and what we learn from the real world are two totally different things when it comes to language learning. I think that what we really need as non-natives is a stronger mastery of English idioms and expressions. So I view that learning common everyday English idioms will help to fit in with most situations . and from my experience. The key to understanding English idioms is never to look at them or read them in a literal sense   , so to master English idioms, we should learn the most common English idioms and expressions.

Idiom is an expression that doesn't exactly mean what the words say.

Idioms are a common use in all language because they share cultural and historical information and we can't understand people without them.

Idioms and phrases are one part and aspect of any language. They may not directly influence language learning, but they do add to your repertoire of set expressions with set meanings. And since native speakers use them in their speech, it is essential for foreign language learners also to use them. They make your speech idiomatic and contemporary, not bookish. But mind you, these days in English idiomatic expressions have been largely replaced by slangs, bad words and portmanteau words, specially come up with the emergence of digital communication and social media, like Facebook and Twitter. But still, in good writings idiomatic expressions are prevalent.
