What is more important education or field experience when looking a hiring competent safety advisors?

My experience I have dealt with highly educated safety professionals that have no field experience (book smart) but no idea of proper interaction when dealing with field workers, though they know the rules they a shunned by workers whom appreciate dealing with experienced field personnel that have safety experience, the interactions are better for reaching compliance targets.

both variable have the same importance, it depends on what type of working environment that you're dealing with.

when dealing with mid - high level management you surely need a higher level of education and communication skills.when dealing with common workers you need experience and communication skills.so actually you need a bit of both to mix the chemistry with the worker thats why we call it "team work"

Academic qualifications are crucial for effectiveness in any organisation ,but experience is the best teacher,as one perfects performance and output through evaluation of successes as well as failures.

I think field experience is better than education degrees, because the workplace will give you a knowledge better than education, on the other hand, eduction is better in one case only which is will deliver the the new standards and latest information in the job area, but I prefer experience rather eduction or both of them but I will not prefer eduction only. Thanks

is to work more with accuracy and follow every small notice is a good way to get experianc in a short time. (work hard)

to be trained in many courses is good but the better is to learn from every material you have even in course or in your general life.

both of them is the best.

Education or experience alone is not enough. You have to get good field experience for you to be able to feel how it is to be on worksites. This would give you a better view on peoples' attitude and develop skills. Add the education through trainings and a person would be a good safety officer.

For a safety officer, I would look for someone that has field experience and has attended some training or seminars from reputable institutions. Field experience is vital when it comes to interacting with field staff and talking to them in a language they understand.

However in order to progress further more specialised education is required like NEBOSH IGC etc.

Field experience in addition to safety quals like IOSH, NEBOSH, CMIOSH< TECIOSH, etc will give you alead in the industry.
