Dental X-rays (radiographs) are photographs of your teeth that your dentist uses to assess your oral health. These x-rays are used with low levels of radiation to take photographs of the inside of your teeth and gums. This will help the dentist detect issues, such as cavities, tooth decay, and affected teeth.

Dental X-rays can seem complicated, but they are actually very simple tools that are just as important as cleaning your teeth.

Cone Beam CT Scan is the newest technology in the dental world. Its a very low-radiation scan

The harmful dose radiation in general ( the dose required to do actual harm to tissues ) is10 rad. ( the unit of radtiation measurement ) . To do a full mouth dental xray survey ( meaning20 xray films ) requires0.00001 rad. , and dental panorama about0.001 rad . Therfore dental xrays are very very safe . Some precautions however are needed in some special cases such as pregnancy , like wearing a lead apron , but still they are considered extremely safe , specially withe the latest advances as digital xray which requires1/10 of the normal dose , so there is nothing to worry about .
