Does age or education matter in being good at your Job?

Age does not matter but yes education does...
your education is a stepping stone, you learn basic rules and become master by applying those basic rules in your professional life....like management graduate cannot become a IT programmer....general or specialize both education matters....

Never, especially when you know what you are doing and doing it right.

Equal importance should be placed upon both.
We live in a credentialed society, but choosing credentials over maturity might result in a highly educated employee lacking emotional intelligence and coping skills.

Ideally, age should not matter at being good at your job [unless you are a Formula 1 driver touching 40 - your reflexes will no longer be fast enough].
Education does help a person to be as good as he/she can get in performing a job well.
It does add value to a person's character.
On your other point about why people fear other people - from personal experience, the people who fear others are often those who are occupying positions NOT on merit so they are always afraid with people who got better experience, education and are younger than them.

Obviously both do matter a lot.
age for energy and ambition.
Education for following set SOPs in formal way and to understand/interpret/solve problems.
education make us formal, disciplined, and motivates us to do things in better way.

I guess they do, but they are not the ultimate factor which decides how good you are at your job, much more important things do that, such as natural talents and personal skills.
Unfortunately age and experience are the things most looked upon by employers during the recruitment process !

Education matters in terms of its impact on the capability or the failure to carry out job requirements effectively.
Age, which means more experience, is always viewed as positive unless reaching a stage encumbering performance...This could be the threat you mean.
Some people fear others only because they do not know them.
Try to be a friendly but careful person.

It seem the issue is culturally justified in the case mentioned above.
In some parts of the world, young men are not allowed to hold such as a manager or a division head at a young age; assuming the young is less learned than the old.
Notice that nowadays info & skills can be picked online.
The psychological part of this question did not drop the assumption that the older knows more, but on the contrary it could be just a repeated cycle of a one year experience.
As long as you are not in the genesis records, then you either need more time or different experience to satisfy the stakeholders.

Farah, welcome to the Middle East;  where your degree is judged, your age is looked at as a negative, and your origin would raise questions (ex: Egyptian or Palestinian) . All of these things you mention are illegal and should be incorporated in a law somewhere that does not discriminate on age, race or origin.

 

Personally I would agree that the older the candidate is the more experience and knowledge they may have.
