The EU will stop using English as one of its official languges. Can this have any negative impact on the use of English as global language?

I am not sure about that news but I think English will remain the popular and most used language worldwide for these years and the years come after

Hello!

Sorry to say I haven't read such news yet except the idea of Brits getting out of the EU.

Any ways English will be English. The use will be the same cause the language will remain as a language.

Only that in that particular place, it will become a dead language. Problem will come to the country, not to the English language, if this happens.

It means again that the negative impact would fall on the society, not the language.

Well, some sort of ethnocentricism will grow in every country if those concerned should maximize the use of their own language in the education sector. They will impact the future workforce and companies would need to change their mediums of instruction, making it more difficult to communicate business wise.

Just imagine it now, when we all have to buy some German products. What if there are no English manuals included in a product? Multiply that into hundreds of countries trying to export their products in the future. How many tablets would you need to take just to find out that you are taking an aspirin? Would you have the time to learn new languages? How many years will it take a student to finish schooling, with all the languages needed to be learnt to survive the outside world?

Chaos will not just be the word by then.

Well, English will be maintained by the world as an official medium of communication in any sector of the society worldwide simply because nobody would want to send the wrong signal to their business partners just by changing the mediums of communication and instruction.

Cheers!

Sure it will have. But in any case English will remain the most used and needed language through all over the world.

Dear Ali

Yes, it will have negative impact  because if I am speaking one of the official languages of the EU I will be limited to milion but if I am speaking or using English I am sure more than millions can understand me.

Yours Sincerely

I highly doubt it will have any meaningful negative impact since most world trade is done in English and with the usage of the US dollar nonetheless. So I believe as long as the US dollar is the currency of the world English will remain the Lingua Franca in the world.

No, because the use is for practical purposes, not official use, tho used that way in some countries.

It would have no effect in Asia, Africa , etc.

I suppose no great negative effect in global sense. English is spoken as official language in many countries. And lots of countries use it as means of communication in business and education. English is the language that combines people, makes their lives easier.
