من العصر الحديث: مهاتير محمد
One of the examples of persons I believe that leadership qualities are embodied in is Gandhi.
Gandhi was one of the greatest leadership examples. He was leading and living by example. He inspired people through his actions. He spent most of his adult life living what he preached to others. He was committed to do the right thing, at the right time, for the right reason. His nonviolent resistance to protest injustice, made people followed in his footsteps. He led India to independence because his life proved, by example, that it could be done. That is why he was honored in India as the father of the nation, and due to his stature, he is now referred to as Mahatma, meaning “great soul.”
Gandhi was telling his followers that if two of the statements he was saying contradict each other, they should ignore the first one and accept the second one, and this reflects his learning and growth mindset. Gandhi’s meetings with his followers although was very short, but they were still having the feeling that they were the only persons Gandhi liked to talk to at that time, and that reflects that he was looking at each person as a human being. During his meetings with people, Gandhi was an exceptional listener, he seemed to be practicing “seeing with his ears”, and this reflects an excellent listening skill. When asked about biggest problem facing India, he did not talk about occupation, slavery or poverty, he said that biggest challenge is callousness of intellectuals, and that reflects that he was proactively identifying problems to make a sustainable change. When his nonviolent resistance was violated, he said we are not yet ready for self rule, because he believed that the end does not justify the means, and that the path should be pure to achieve the desired goals, and that reflects being a conscience keeping mindset.
Gandhi believed that self discipline is the training of your mind to control, and that it is a skill once you get it, it can alter your life, and this reflects his emphasis on self awareness and self discipline. Gandhi also was passionately and clearly able to share and communicate his vision and values, and that have caused his followers to buy into it, his passion was contagious to others. Again, by using his nonviolence resistance route, Gandhi’s effective leadership was through the emphasis on the path and result. Gandhi’s approach of nonviolent and civilized lifestyle, enriched India’s social, religious and political life. At last, Gandhi was open minded, he never dismissed ideas of others, because he believed that one does not know where the next useful idea may come from. Thank U.
