GPON is very much cost effective as compared to copper network as GPON uses fibre optics which offers less attenuation as compared to copper. GPON network is also resistant to electromagnetic interference and finally signals in GPON travel as PHOTON while in Copper network as ELECTRON so photons are much more faster than electrons and thus offering high cost effectiveness.
