the right experience you need to be a good electrical engineer is the power plant field that include all electrical machines and equipment.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE that is the best tool.
In order to be a successful electrical power engineer, you should know about power system analysis, load flow, short circuit and stability. Additionally, you should have practical and theoretical knowledge of rotating equipment, asynchronous and synchronous motors, DC motors, Generators. Same applies for static equipment such as transformers, rectifiers, UPS, among others. Relay coordination and application of protection devices, in general, is essential for a proper understanding of the system operation. Finally, selection and design of MCCs and Switchgears, cable sizing, grounding system, and lightning protection are fundamental for the day to day activities of a power engineer. A basic set of tools will include:
ETAP or similar, this for load flow and short circuit calculations.
Cable routing software.
1.For trouble shooting/ normal operation you have to understand the process & their interlock, protections system related to Power system. Say Motor, HT/LT Breaker, Alternator,Boiler Turbine,HT/LT Transformer,HT/LT PCC,MCC,CT/PT,Grid synchronising, Load shedding/sharing & their utilization.
2. have to understand the tools required to check a motor feeder cable. Say 500/5000 Volt Magger, Multi-miter, Clamp meter also have to know the Testing procedure to execute a job. Say for O/L tripping have to check the fuse, then magger, winding resistance or any type of mechanical overloading say % damper opening increased. Steps/Procedure to complete any job.3. Have to read the drawing/ferruling details is very important for Errection, commissioning ,Operation, maintenance or Trublu-shooting etc.
4. Knowledge of Auto-cad is also very important.
5. For successful completion of any work keep our mind very cum, confident & be practical.First Plan, analyze then execute to perfection. etc.etc......
There are many Skills PM and PLC Autocad etc
I'm sorry this is not my specialist
All hand tools concerned(tool Kit) high / low voltage tester, insulation tester etc
Thanks for invitation -
You should support the scientific expertise and then transferred to the process of professional experience, because the reality of corporate needs practical experience (professional). Then follow the scientific variables in your field.
........sorry i am civil..........
make your self 100% involved in the particular area and think think and think that what you need, what you want ,then you will get the answer soon.
1- Schematic Diagram reading ability
2- Good Safety measure
3- Analysis & troubleshooting Ability
4- Decent electrical knowledge about electrical components and their function (Motor ,battery , MCB , power transformers , Earthing , Three phase ...Etc )
5 - laws and formulas .
