In Instrumentation and Control system - Oil and Gas area/ plants, prior to put in function any equipment, must be check and put in service the measurement and Controlling, as instrumentation part.Logic functional test it is the test of instrument equipment in order to take decision and action of equipment through the PLC, or ICSS in conformity of the Logic block implemented in order to be safe, and to controlling the process as required.
Cold loop testing is done without powering up, ie the wiring integrity is tested through loop resistance and continuity check. Where as the hot loop test is done by simulation of the automation controller (PLC, DCS) and the I/O, Functions etc. are tested.

Cold Loop checking: Checking of wires continuity of respective field instrument-Junction box-DCS/PLC marshaling panel terminal.
Hot loop checking: Once you power up your field instrument through DCS/PLC system, by stimulating process input from respective field instrument and cross check its response at DCS/PLC system
Hi : Dear for cold loop testing ,we have checking all executive and activity by checklist and drawing ,
like piping , electrical wires ,joint and connections , welding , valve ,motors, conveyors , plate form
and every equipment ,control by plane & site design . without any power and material ,gas powder,according on I.T.P project.
liquid ,air . nothing...
but in hot loop testing we are in real checking and tests ,in every department one by one ,under supervision of vendors ,project manager , employer , and all beneficiary guy under QC.&H.S.E. supervision. also going for production . and we must be shore about correction and good working all equipment and machinery.
