MSP is the best for projects following a certain model... Waterfall, Iterfall
For scrum and agile, Jira will be better...
If the organization is not looking for tracking, we can also use MS Excel for project planning. FOr complete project management, Word & PowerPoint are essential tools, especially for documentation and status reports/ updates to senior management.
Not a single one, depends on the project scope and budge allocated to the software. For small projects handled by only a person or two, even MS Excel may do the work, but MS Project is surly a better choice. For large enterprise, we may need a set of tools not a single, that may include Primavera. Dot Project, Open Project, Project.net are a good choices in free software. Even SAP can be used for project management to some extent.
Mostly it depends upon project nature, what you want , what you want to control and manage. Such as SAP, Primavera, Pertmaster, Prince 2, MS Project, Risky Project, Pertmaster and even MS Excel and many other softwares but again depends upon the requirement of project.
Well, MS Project is generally suitable for managing IT projects. While SAP has a Project Systems that is good for managing Engineering Projects
