Which is more important in hiring an applicant, experience or education?

More important is education.

I answer this question every week.  It is neither.  Search my posts.

I believe the experience is most important and compliments education.  Hands-on learning, especially learning from our mistakes, becomes etched in our minds at a deep level and when needed, we can refer to our experiences to make the best decisions.  

Experienced get with come across the field problems for which you wont get the solution in any of the book.So for field job experienced person is suitable rather than having higher education.In teaching line education should be higher.

Experience to me is more important that education, you can educate yourself through experience.

Experience by far is the asset to look for, education can come with experience, experience is never taught.

Education is useless without experience, but without education, we won't be getting the experience.

Again my answer is education first to attain experience. No need to have a lengthy answer because for me it's logical to have the education first because it's a gauge to be accepted to the job that we are applying for.

There may be HR Managers and Executives that lean one way or another, but for those coming up through the ranks, both is the best way to go. More college and university students are spending time taking on internships and getting as much work experience as possible before graduation. Clearly this experience along with their degree will prove extremely useful when entering the workforce.

Experience on the court, on the playing field, track, or any athletic venue can contribute some very positive attributes for a well-rounded, loyal and hard working employee.

Education is required for the competency and the experience will provide right approach and attitude. Many crucial problems can easily be solved by using experience.A good sound experience provides you knowledge and confidence.

Education lays a foundation for strong fundamentals. I think it depends for example I'm a software professional and hire software engineers day in and day out for my various teams.

There is significant difference between ‘code monkey’ and ‘smart coder’. Given a task, anyone can write code but how modular and future ready it is?

Education plays important role in laying those fundaments correct like how to write layered code, how to make proper use of design patterns so that code written today is future ready for expansion and change in requirements. Experience teaches you at very superficial level but core strong foundation at degree level is core fundamental. That’s the reason we go for premier institutes like IIT for search of candidates.
