It all depends on the type of company and what type of users you have. It's always good to start with the "who-what-where-when-why" strategy. Who are my users and what would they like? What type of company is it and what image are we trying to portray? Where will the event take place and why is this event happening?
I wouldn't have little people dancers at a government function as it may be seen as having poor taste. For a nobel peace prize winner, I may decorate with a library theme and have event goers check in using a library card instead of laminate name cards.
