Thank you for the question,

From my experience, I observed that the main problem for most students who are "uncomfortable" with physics have weak ability to express a physical phenomenon in a mathematical way, and to explain mathematical obtained results in a physical concept. This because most mathematical concepts are not clear for them.

First , unlike chemistry or biology, there is not such a thing called 'memorising' in studying physics, it is all about understanding the concepts completely and properly. Secondly, you have to apply these concepts to solve problems. Thirdly, in solving problems you have to combine many formulas(formulas that are related to your problem) , rearrange and manipulate them  in order to come up with a reasonable solution. So as you can see maths is vital part in physics.
