What is meant by retention time?

Retention time is the amount of time fluid stays in the vessel. It assures that equilibrium has been reached between gas and liquid at separator pressure

The retention time in a separator is time period for well effluent takes from entring sperator inlet to flow out from separator out-let and determined by dividing the liquid volume inside the vessel by the liquid flow rate. The retention time usually varies between 30 seconds and 3 minutes.

Retention time=periode of time in wich the Separator hold in the effluent coming form well during the separation process
