Every action and interaction with employees should drive the business forward.however, when there are a need to make employees available for doing overtime beyond their 8-hour day,we should follow the mandatory laws to ensure the work gets done on time and in the same time to make sure that the employees are happy to work extra hours without being forced to do this.
To meet certain urgent, specific time-bound assingments, one may work after office hours occasionally. But it should not be a regular practice to work without any compensation.
Payment of overtime depends on type of employe "exempt" or "non-exempt". An exempt employee (broadly classifed as white collar or salaried employees) may get compensation in other forms example, bonus. A non-exempt (blue-collar) is entitlted for payment of overtime.

Its good to focus job on 24/7 basis in events where some critical task need to accomplish. However balance in office, personal and family life is also important to have concentration our job
