What is the purpose of deaerator in steam power plant?

A deaerator is a device that is widely used for the removal of oxygen and other dissolved gases from the feedwater to steam-generating boilers. In particular, dissolved oxygen in boiler feedwaters will cause serious corrosion damage in steam systems.

A deaerator vessel a mechanical static equipment in a power plant that remove the impurities of feed water like oxygen and dissolve gases, from boiler feed pump to steam generating unit, to avoid any damages in boiler tubing system like scales etc.

Is there anyone who has experience with power plants without deaerator (degassing in the condenser only).

The deaerator is an essential equipment in Steam based power plant, where boiler is to be operated. The presence of oxygen, and other non-condensable gases, in the feed water is a major cause of corrosion in the feed water piping, boiler, and condensate piping line. The dissolved oxygen content of the feed water is a major factor of corrosion in boiler. Low pH levels in feed water cause severe acid attack throughout the boiler system.The removal of dissolved gasses and oxygen  process is known as deaeration. There are two types of deaeration is generally happen as chemical deaeration and mechanical deaeration. The main function of deaerator is -1) To remove the dissolved gases to prevent corrosion feed water heated.2) To work as a feed water storage tank.3) To increase thermal efficiency.4) To provide required Net positive suction head to feed water pump.​

It Is used In the purpose of removing dissolved gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide in water . These dissolved gases  cause corrosion and damage in steam system .

In order to improve feed water quality by removing dissolve gasses and oxygen deaerator is used it also helped to improve NPSH for Boiler feed water pump. steam used for deaeration also causing to increase the pressure for suction of BFW pumps

It enables you to remove oxygen and other dissolved gases from feed water to protect steam generator against corrosion.

To de-aerate oxygen from the circuit of steam water cycle in order to minimize metal corrosion.
