both the software's has own strengths. it will depends upon the nature of work and type of data complexity. excel is recommended due to its simplest and easier use, Excel makes it easy to store data, perform numerical calculations, format cells, and adjust layouts to generate the output and reports to share with others. Advanced features such as subtotals, power pivot tables and pivot charts, analysis toolkit, and many templates make it easy to accomplish a wide range of tasks however access needs greater expertise to handle with the data.
Microsoft Excel it is. It provides a variety of features for ease of analysis and helps you to perform data analysis to very detailed structure. It enables to make right business decisions based and very flexible.
On other hand, Access is a power full tool when used together Microsoft Excel
Depending on the current ERP systems, it's better to go with excel as most of the ERP outputs support excel for analysis and classfication .
access is a storage engine basically, it is not designed for analysis purpose, excel, if your data size is small, is a good tool. But for large data it will stuck and you will not able to perform any task. I have used power bi which is very handy and smooth for analysis, but for it you need a good skills for data modeling and some knowledge of DAX programming.
