The main difference between a biweekly and semimonthly payroll is that biweekly happens every two weeks while semimonthly occurs twice per month, such as on the 15th and final day of the month. An employee knows when each biweekly payday will happen, such as every other Friday; however, semimonthly paydays are not as easy to predict as they may fall on different days of the month. Depending on the month, payday may happen on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday. In this case, employees with direct deposit generally receive payment on the preceding business day. Biweekly employees usually receive 26 paychecks per year; semimonthly employees receive 24.

The difference between Bi-weekly and Semi Monthly payroll is that Biweekly payroll is a Two-week cycle pay in that it is paid after every two weeks and again It is day specific but not month specific i.e Pay after every Two Fridays/Tuesdays/Wednesday etc whereas the Semi-monthly payroll is a two cycle pay within the month. It is date specific as well as month specific. i.e Pay on the 15th and 30th day of the month.

The difference between biweekly and semimonthly payroll is that the biweekly payroll system pays every two weeks  while the semimonthly payroll system pays twice per month, normally on the 15th and  at the end of the month. In a biweekly payroll there are 26 pay periods per year  while in the semimonthly it is 24.

For me the difference is that, biweekly, you do the payroll every two weeks whereas in semi-monthly payroll, you do payroll every cut-off, when we say cut-off, it depends on the company if they want it every 10th and then release it on the 15th or cut-off at 25th and  release the salary every 30th. That's opinion. From my experience, I do payroll every cut-off, 10th and 25th and then release the salary every 15th and 30th. :)
