"Marketing mix" is a general phrase used to describe the different kinds of choices organizations have to make in the whole process of bringing a product or service to market. The 4Ps is one way – probably the best-known way – of defining the marketing mix, and was first expressed in 1960 by E J McCarthy.

Product, Price, Placement and Promotion are the fundamentals of the Marketing Mix's Ps. But lately, updates have been made to this and People, Processes and physical environment been added to the list :)
Some good direct answers here but i suggest it would have been nice for someone to point why these 4 PS are considered crucial in a marketing mix.
So in a nutshell, the four ps helps in meeting consumer needs effectively. When starting in business or amplifying your business, you have think about your customers before anything.
