The full form is “Enterprise Resource Planning”. If an organization intend to automate all its activity and monitor them electronically this is the module who can make it possible. 

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is business process management software that allows an organization to use a system of integrated applications to manage the business and automate many back office functions related to technology, services and human resources.

ERP stands for "Enterprise resource Planning" . We need to define it as a system through which we can plan all the resources of a complete enterprise activities. Normally ERP points to a software which is capable to address all the needs of every department of a company using a SINGLE DATABASE shared on the back-end.

Every department gets the access of their relevant tasks and the data which is generated is available to all the stake holders for further processing or reporting purposes. Sales dept, Purchase Dept, Ware House, Manufacturing, Stores , Human Resource, Finance , Transport Dept etc do not need separate solutions to handle their routine tasks and a single ERP system is capable to provide them all the necessary I.T tools for Budgeting, Scheduling, Communicating, Data-Entry and Reporting tasks.So ERP covers a complete Life Cycle of Every Business Scenario and Business tasks using a single platform for every stake holder. There are many ERP systems which are available in the market. Which companies can use as per their requirement. ERP software is considered to be a type of enterprise application, that is software designed to be used by larger businesses and often requires dedicated teams to customize and analyze the data and to handle upgrades and deployment. In contrast, Small business ERP applications are lightweight business management software solutions, often customized for a specific business industry or vertical.

ERP Enterprise Resource Planning, system in which it is possible to operate and have control of all the operations - processes of the company and the costs. The most know is SAP (developed in Germany), ORACLE.
