How has Project Management changed since you started ? I have noticed an evolution - what do we do better now than say 10 years ago ?

Having been in project Management ( mainly in IT) I have seen changes and new methodologies that permeate thought my work, regardless of what method of project it is - Prince2 , Agile, PEMBOK. I tend to find myself adopting things I know work and stick to them. What about you ?

I know it's a standard question, the objectives are complex and very personal things, and can change without notice or permission, so the real answer is something like "I am because I want the job, they have the skills you need, and pay enough current for my needs. Whether you will be still here ten years ago it based on a number of factors that can not be for any of us to predict

Today "

There are a lot of planning, which varies according to time and place

I think Project Management has evolved a lot. We have been through the project failures, cost over run, disasters without having any pin point areas. But now with the latest methodologies and approach these mishaps can easily manged and timely preventive fire fighting steps can be taken. The funnel structure exactly helps in identifying and informing relevant stakeholders for the right decision and success has now become the mere story!!

I can think of three things that changed.

First, there is a tendency to have more and more vendor specific Projects and PMs. This kinda specializes a PM and limits his opportunitites to become involved in too many different bases of technology, if you 're talking IT. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as specialization may lead to better expertise, improved issue avoidance and, ultimately, to better Project delivery time.

Second, modern Project Management motivates collaboration because of improved project transparency. Earlier, projects were visible mainly to the PM and the immediate stakeholders through meetings or scheduled email updates. Nowadays you can just share all or part of your project (for example specific tasks) with a click of button with stakeholders and staff resources, so they can update task or project status immediately or highlight and discuss issues online.

Third, is the possibility to handle multiple projects at once, which kinda derives from the previous point. Software and cloud tools enabled PMs and stakeholders to be part of multiple project and overview and handle them easier. If you add enterprise mobility through use of tablets and smartphones, you can even be more engaged in project updates than before, cutting the time until you get in office to get your hands on overviewing a project or attending a task update meeting.
