We find there are many applications used by organization . i.e. one application for billing , accounting , some other for CRM etc. Then they implement ERP to replace all those and still they fail to achieve desired result. Why so ? can you list some reasons of ERP implementation failures ?
As per my understanding and information, below are some key points to to considered while implementing an ERP system
1) First rule of anything!!! Planning makes things perfect. Priorities your requirement, do a proper plan and stick to it till done.
2) To choose the most suitable solution among the hundreds of enterprise software options available on the market. Unfortunately, no single answer on how to find what you need, but you have to consider multiple factors including price and specific functionality requirements. You need to find a good consultant too for implementation.
3) Once you have selected one ERP and a consultant, second stage you need to find solution for technical issues, which include hardware setup. An In House setup or cloud based system or some other solutions.
4) Invest on a proper training for employees. They are the key responsible to support the new system. Employees should be able to understand and follow the new system with most data entry accuracy. New reports are most welcomed by management, but data entry error / clerical mistakes makes things worst.
5) Should have third party alternative back up support for AMC in case the prime consultants charges are too high on consecutive years.
This comments are only from my experiences and available knowledge. I was a team player during our Oracle ERP implementation.
1. Lack of interest of ERP producer in implementation of "on-prem" projects and more focus on Cloud migration and implementations.
2. Lack of quality and timely support in case of issues.
3. Application design is also an issue where developers have access to every object table and code of ERP product and they resolve issues through non standard processes.
4. Hiring of non experienced team members to save project cost.
5. Political reasons.
