What is photovoltaic cell ?

A photovoltaic cell is a specialized  semiconductor diode that convert visible light into direct current (DC). Some PV cells can also convert infrared (IR) or ultraviolet (UV) radiation into DC electricty.PV cells are an integral part of solar-electric energy system, which are becoming increasingly important as alternative sources of utility power.

A photovoltaic cell is basically a battery with copper plates and zinc plates in acid which helps generate power to run required elements.
