When you are going to plan for your career, you need first to write down 4 different boxes:
1- your current qualifications
2- your skills
3- your motivation (what do you want to reach in specific period of time)
4- job market needs
then you start comparing this 4 boxes to each other, the result will be your career path & your needs to reach your goal.
1. First of all you have to decide what you want to do. Plan your things strategically.
2. Do Self SWOT Analysis that is you have to see your current skills and competency and measure it with one for which you are desired. SWOT Analysis will give you a complete picture where you stand.
3. On basis of SWOT analysis make your daily goals and try to achieve them. It will improve your current skills and competencies. These will help you in gaining more confidence and preparing for next career move.
4. Remember one thing always do self-learning, try to learn about Technology advancement, new trends and research about product. It will help you in standing out of the crowd.
There are lot of aspects related to the career move, from my perspective the key would be:
1.You should not have a career move just in 6 months or 1 year of joining a company, because then you neither gain something or have contributed much to the company, as it usually takes 6 months to a year to settle down with the processes and understanding the strategic vision of it.
2. Once you have completed 2 years in a company and you see there is no career path for you in the next 2-3 years then you have to first see if you can suggest one to the senior management for the career path and if you see there is no scope for it you need to plan out your next career move.
When you consider career move you need to focus on 2 main things, what is your strength and what is the market trend, because the later one will always supersedes
so you need to see to what extend your strength can be aligned with the later one and if you need to get more skills, then get it, but not just getting any skills, because we usually just get certifications, which in realty is required or not, we do not much focus on that, so that is the main thing you need to have your skills aligned to your field, then only you will have return to your investment else it would be a junk cost to you.
so in a gist your next career move should be a planned one based on your skill set, your strength and market trend and the one where you can see a career path, not just in terms of titles or salary, but a real growth in you with the growth in company.
First to get a good vision for my future,
To develop the strategy to achieve that vision by determine the strenght and weak point of me,
To identify the risks that would abstract my way to achieve the goals,
To track and monitor my progress and fix any deviation for the progress
