yes, i believe the tech companies have new innovative and futuristic technologies in reserve because they keep going to enhance the things more creative more futuristic , they keep looking and analysing the compatitors in detail and wait for the right time to announce and launch them to get the compatitive advantage and grab the market attentions.
Its called strategic product placement. Its a basic principal of supply and demand.
You can invent a million new technologies today but if there is no need for it today...then why sell it as you will get little to no R.O.I.
what i do believe that usually there is two types of tech products/ developments the first one which was developed/ invited to fulfill customers or market needs which exists on the market immediately after its developments and the other which is revolutionary or new trends which needs sometime to creates its demand on the market ( her your question can be relevant )
in addition there is two or 3 parallel development directions one for the consumer market , second for the military and/or enterprise which is far ahead advance and a lot of products starts in this field but ends in the consumer market ( her also your concerns may be valid )
yes I believe they have futuristic technologies but they are proto type only
