If you spend a lot of time in your office, you should create a good environment around you in the office to get your job done in the best possible way. The personal trainer, Daniel Wallen, advises on an article on the Australian LifeHack website to make sure there are 5 things on your desk at work.
1- Bottle of water
2- Sterilizer or disinfectant
3- healthy snacks
4- Peanut or mint beans
5- Backup charger for phone
The most important rule in organizing your office and not to take into account its location, be careful to face the open spaces and avoid being against the wall. The landscape of gardens or fountains and flowers delightfully renews human energies and creative ability.
If you receive customers it is better to be minimalist.
Overall keep only what you use frequently on your desk and keep the rest organized inside your drawer / closet. An organised space ease the mind and help it focus, therefore increase productivity.
Keep things in reach. Resources, files and other items you use on a daily basis should be within tools. If you keep a telephone book on your desk, but use an online directory, then the phone book needs to go, and you have agenda step by step.
Sure when you have system for your works plan you will gain good works and good results.

By keeping only things I need on my desk.
I keep a to do list so that my desk is not full of non needed documents and items.
Remaining stuff stay in drawers and cabinets.
dividing my desk into currently active and done assignment. active assignments are prioritized based on due dates and other factors, done assignments are filed in individual files based on the client or other factors.
The desk itself has nothing but a screen and a notebook to work on.
Nothing which may disturb me.
Only my screens, my keyboard, my mouse, my laptop and my phone.
And obviously my cup of coffee.
The rest of it, if needed, in a desk drawer unit.
