Partly agree!, Since sometimes we can use informality in order to pass some situations.

But in general YES, the shorter way to success is formal way.

if you consider that every steps or decisions, agreements and negotiation you do, were prepared, organized and planned before, so you can consider that as formality

I tend to disagree a bit. Communication is the key of success.

I disagree. Diversity is everywhere so as people way of communication. I believe that having respect mitigate the idea of success and formality together. 

To achieve success differs from one person to the other.To me success is meeting target,growth,enlargement affect your environment positively.Achieve success formally Is partial success but achieve whollistic success demands creativity, fair hearing,strict adherence to standard, technological advancement. Formality though good but does not allow for Creativity ,individual and organisational development.
