A good way to look at the benefits of each tool is AutoCAD is great for 2D drawing, where only precise line work is needed, such as elevation detail drawings. Revit is great for modeling, generating cost schedules, collaboration and change management. In the industry of design and construction, competition is fierce.

Autocad is best suited for drafting purposes for any field of engineering be it civil, mechnical, electrical. On the other hand Revit is specifically trageted towards construction and building design. The tabs and commands in revit are best suited for designing a constriction project that is why it is considered a part of BIM (Building Information Modeling). There are also other BIM softwares other than Revit such as Autocad Civil 3D specific to infrastructure design. Therefore, from construction engineering and management point of view Revit is better because it not only caters for building design (architecture, structure, and HVAC), but also for its quantity estimation, Life Cycle Assessment, and Building Performance. While Autocad will provide only the design be it 2D or 3D.

AutoCAD is an all-in-all suite. It caters to a big user base, an even bigger market and even complex set of domains. Its limitations are its learning curve and complex interface, along with the cumbersome feature set. One scope that was not so clearly defined or highlighted before was the fact that AutoCAD is meant for the designer and drafter, whether they be engineers, manufacturers, architects or simply hobbyists. AutoCAD was and is the complete set of tools and feature set that focuses on allowing just about anyone who knows how to use the software to design and document 2D and for the most part 3D drawings and projects.

Revit allows the designer to create a three dimensional model with it's construction information. It allows individual components to be controlled by parameters that the users input. While Autocad is mostly used in 2d drawings. For me, Autocad is better for Detailing, and Revit is better for modelling.

AutoCAD is more flexible as you’ve all the surface, mesh and solid commands of AutoCAD. Revit is stricter; you’ve to do things correctly .

Is not the program, is the proffessional who make them better tools.

Revit allows the designer to create a three dimensional model with it's construction information butAUTOCAD is the one of the best softwares for 2D drawings

Revit is a BIM (Building information modeling) tool and AutoCAD is a CAD (Computer Aided Desigining) tool.

In my opinion Revit is better because it caters for modelling;costing and analysis of 3D drawings where as autocad is best for drafting in 2D drawings.

I personally think both are awesome in there own way.both benefits and fulfill work requirements at the end.AutoCAD works fabulous for 2D Drawings and Revit is a smart solution for creating accurate plans.
