Similarty: both of them are managemnt protocols and they operate over TCP

Difference:

SSH Secure SHell as name implies its secure protocol, utilize port TCP:22 in commuity they see alot of potentials in SSH for example SFTP Secure FTP its extintion of SSH

Telnet: Data sent in clear text unencrypted utilizing port TCP:23 its lite weight easy to use. in isolated netork segment it fine i personally use it in lab even in work

SSH is more secure than telnet for accessing remote.

Telnet and SSH are management protocols that used by the admins for server management. SSH is more secure than telnet as it's an encrypted protocol.

Telnet is a network protocol that allows a user to communicate with a remote device.SSH is a network protocol used to remotely access and manage a device.

SSH and TELNET are protocols used in network , the main difference between SSH and TELNET is that SSH uses encryption while transfering data .

SSH i.e. Secure Shell and Telnet are the network protocols that serves the same purpose that is to provide remote access to the system in order to establish some sort of communication between the systems for ex. Communication between the Server and the Client. However, the main difference between these protocols is the security of the data being transferred between the systems.Following are the points that differentiates SSH and Telnet.SSH :-

* SSH encrypts the data/packets being transferred between the systems so it cannot be Decoded by the Hackers. For ex. the user-name,password etc.* In Public network mostly SSH is used for remote connection due to it's security mechanism.* SSH uses authentication which ensures that the source of the data is still the same system and not another. Without the authentication, any other person can intercept and perform some undesired tasks.* SSH uses public and private keys, to identify hosts and users (authentication).* By default SSH runs on port 22.

Telnet :-* The data transferred between the systems is in Plain text (ASCII form) and not in encrypted format which is the major security concern. So the data can be easily read by anybody in the network and can hack the system.* Telnet is mostly used in Private network as it's highly insecure to use in Public network.* Telnet does not use Authentication which is again a security issue.* Telnet runs on port 23.

Summary:

1. SSH and Telnet commonly serves the same purpose

2. SSH is more secure compared to Telnet

3. SSH encrypts the data while Telnet sends data in plain text

4. SSH uses a public key for authentication while Telnet does not use any authentication

5. SSH adds a bit more overhead to the bandwidth compared to Telnet

6. Telnet has been all but replaced by SSH in almost all uses

SSH and Telnet are both network protocols that allow users to login to remote systems,SSH uses port 22 and Telnet uses port 23 for communications,SSH uses public key encryption in order to authenticate the remote users, but Telnet uses no authentication mechanisms so ssh is secure than telnet as ssh suitable for reliable and non reliable networks but telnet suitable for private network

In Telnet Data travel over the network as a plain text , any hacker can sniff data

in SSH the data encrypted and hard to understood if any one sniff it

In telnet session data travel  in plaintext form and in SSH session data in encrypted form

both of them are used for remote access but the different is the encryption. ssh is encrypted so any one who try to monitore the data in the network he will not see the correct data but in telnet he can .
