How do we prepare asphalt mix and what are the main ingredients?

First, all required chemical and physical tests (size, hardness, resistance and fines content) must be carried out to the aggregates (gravel and sand), in order to verfy the optimal mix of aggregates. thereafter, the optimal percentage of betumin must be determined by testing different mixing percentages by two ways (either hot or warm). 

Ingredients:

- Aggregates;

- betumin;

- Meniral filler;

- and Additives (optional).

Main Ingredients of Asphalt Mix:Aggregates wiich includes Gravel, Sand and Aggregates-95% and Bitumen 5%

First we mix gravel with a hot  bituman

VERIFYING THE MIX BY TESTING

First of all we take samples of the ingredients from the crasher. We do the quality assurance of ingredients. We start to make at least three mixes that obtain 4% air voids at specific bitumen content. We try at least 4 bitumen contents. Draw the curves and obtain the optimum bitumen content. Test the mixture to insure its durability and moisture sensitivity.

For the preparing of asphalt we need different size of aggregate (fine to coarse) according to mix design and we get filler from fine aggregates (like as dust) and also bitumen ( There is many grades of bitumen) We heat up the aggregate about 160 celcius or required certain temperature and after we add bitumen and filler in mixer and after mixing the asphalt is ready.

1- MARSHAL METHOD.

2- SUPERPAVE METHOD.

- BLENDING DIFFRENT SIZES OF AGGREGATES TOGETHER.

- TRY DIFFRENT %S OF BITUMEN WITH THE SELECTED BLEND.

- SELECT THE OPTIMAL BITUMEN %.

- VERIFYING THE MIX BY TESTING.

Ingredients are different size of stone according with the receipt, heated inside dryer, screened, weighed and mixed together with filler and bitumen

Preparation of Marshal Bituminous Mix Design:-

* First of all we need aggregate gradation for coarse and fine aggregates

* Making its blending according to the specifications

* Checking Bitumin specifc gravity, aggregates specific gravities

* Then according to the blending making proper Combined specific gravity that will be used as a refference for further tests of asphalts on regular basis.

* Then Take a blending and mix the bitumin in mixing bowl or on a hot plate maintaing the temprature required

* Make a sample for maximum theoretical specific gravity

* Make the marshal mold accordingly

* Check its density, flow, stability and loss

* The fill up the marshal form and check all the properties

* Repeat this process at least five time to check the maximum asphalt content percentage
