There's nothing better than on-the-job training.
Give trainees time to learn for themselves and physically demonstrate what they have learned — for example, role playing a sales pitch or repairing a machine.

to make it clear that your in management position and in control but at the same time make the new staff member feel relax at work and can concentrate more on the training and learn from it.
Otherwise it will be a waste of time and money.
New staff are keen to learn fast but also the do concentrate more on things going currently on at the company than focus on the training.
Current employees will have first the opportunity to get training than new staff.
because sometimes new staff don't last long and prefer other jobs if your management is stronger than they can handle.
Also you can give internal training but not spending money on training for new staff until6 months of employment has been served.
Otherwise you pay to give them training and they leave soon to go to another job and just needed that training to get a better job but also then the training cost them nothing.

Fair amount of both audio visual classroom training (for example - customer service professionals) and on the job training is the best way to train new staff.

Fresh employees are keen to learn new things and are dedicated to update their knowledge. It makes the trainer to deliver the class with enthusiasm and active interaction with their delegates.
Also the trainer should consider bringing down as much technicalities in their first session to ease the pressure from the new hires.

The best method is letting juniors or interns to practice and experience the task/job, even if there is a room for error.

The best method to do something right,

is to do something wrong... and learn from it.

It's always important to align Fresh Staff right from the beginning; therefore it's not a trick, it is a procedure that should exist/implemented from the beginning and being monitored and measured regularly for its outcomes.
A good standing organization should have implemented procedures that have at least minimum criteria that cover the minimum important things required by the new staff.
As this question is broad and it is not for specific type of organizations the following might help: - If there are legislations/regulations/standard imposed on that organization that requires training or as called some time familiarization course, the training should follow as minimum the legislations/regulations/standard requirements then to add the specific organization nature on that training course.
- If there is no legislations/regulations/standard imposed on that organization, the training course should be designed to cover two important factors (General organization part / Specific Departmental part).
The training should include/cover all important things to know, in such (reporting criteria-safety measures-human rights-job description-legislations-organization rules-anti_harassment policies-first aid- ...).
And training to that specific part of the organization that they will fit in.
Hope that this satisfies you query as a start.
Kind Regards

While I consider practical or on-the-job training important; new staffs are usually acquainted with basic theoretical knowledge required to perform on the job to avert certain avoidable mistakes.
I start such training (usually interactive session) right from the time of introduction through orientation.
This is usually followed by several in-house trainings while on the job.
Matching theory and practical experiences make the job interesting to new staffs and removes boredom.
I describe each experience as it relates to courses taken in schools for fresh school leavers especially.

I would prefer to involve fresh staff in training through interactive activities.

Thank you for the invitation.
In addition to the great suggestions mentioned above; group work activities is also preferable to make a competition among the fresh participants.

I agree with the majority of responses and wanted to add an outline we used in our personnel development training on the5 tips for training new employees:

1. Have a Variety of Different Training Methods; 2. Take Advantage of Training Opportunities; 3. Let Current Employees Help; 4. Be Aware of Skill Level Differences; 5. Have Some Fun!

I always Minister formations very practical way, the student learns by doing, I think this way is much more motivating and efficient.
I also try to always show what the usefulness of what you are learning for that specific group of learners.
Finally I always try to show that the only way to evolve is learning more, learning other ways to resolve issues and achieve other levels of knowledge.
