"low heat" Portland cement would always be preferred for massive structures
For mass concreting , low heat of hydration (Cement) can help to prevent the cracks in the casting,
the concrete can be produced by low heat cement or replacing part of cement with GGBS or and Fly ash , which increase the setting time but adds the durability as it helps in reducing heat of hydration and prevents cracks caused by them.
but if the initial strength is priority , the controlling the temperature of concrete pouring and controlling the curing portion shall be priority.
from m-40 to m-50 grade concrete is used as it is exposed to sea and soil inside the sea.
