“most people become soft, civilized and self-realistic when lost most assets”. is it true or not? why?

It may be true for some people but not for all. For those people for which this statement holds true may be because after losing their assets they might become less independent and starts needing help from more people than before. And for the other half I would say, after loosing this much wealth, they become aggressive and volgar etc.
