I agree with Mr. Alhusayni, but other skills that will come in handy besides listening and understandig are: empathy, parafrasing, non-verbal communcation (like nodding) . These kind of skills will help you to understand the other person and the other personwill feel that you understand him.
The most important point for communicating with others is listening and understanding what others are saying.
