In a very brief wording, the most important characteristic of a leader:

1- Empathy with his staff.

2- Consistency to gain respect and credibility.

3- Honest with all people and in all his attempts.

4- Having a  strong and clear vision.

5- Effective in communications.

6- Flexibility and opened minded.

7- Conviction to the vision and mission and works towards it.

Influancing a group of people towards achieveing the goals

A leader leads by example. He should maintain a striking balance between the push for results and keeping the team's morale up. He always backs his team and stand-up for their failures, at the same time give full credit to team members for their success. Gaining the trust of the team and keeping up the promise is the key. He should be an expert in delegation and conflict management. The members should feel they can walk up to the leader any point of time to discuss their concerns and worries and should be able to celebrate their success with the leader

Characteristics of a leader: Although there are several characteristics of a leader which are mentioned below, the most important characteristic of a leader according to me is my point 1. 

1. A leader always praises your small hard work and motivates you to go far better selflessly and never leaves any team member behind.

2. A leader always accomplishes there commitments.

3. Good problem-solving skills, good listener, positive behavior, soft-spoken, patience, and understanding of nature all these characteristics can easily recognizable in a leader.

4. The leader has always got consistency in his work.

A leader should stand as a role model or a point of reference to his/her followers. If a leader is humble, respectful, focused, devoted and hardworking. These characteristics will be reflected in his followers.

To me Leader must posses, Supervisory ability, Desire for occupational achievements, Intelligence, Self - assurance and initiative.
