The word literature literally means: "things made from letters". Literature is commonly classified as having two major forms—fiction and non-fiction—and two major techniques—poetry and prose.

Literature may consist of texts based on factual information (journalistic or non-fiction), a category that may also include polemical works, biography, and reflective essays, or it may consist of texts based on imagination (such as fiction, poetry, or drama). Literature written in poetry emphasizes the aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of language—such as sound, symbolism, and metre—to evoke meanings in addition to, or in place of, ordinary meanings, while literature written in prose applies ordinary grammatical structure and the natural flow of speech. Literature can also be classified according to historical periods, genres, and political influences. While the concept of genre has broadened over the centuries, in general, a genre consists of artistic works that fall within a certain central theme; examples of genre include romance, mystery, crime, fantasy, erotica, and adventure, among others.

So, literature should not be removed or replaced in the English curriculum by more modern forms of media.

Literature can never be raplaced by any sort of media , simply because it's the skeleton of the culture . Literature covers Drama , Poetry and Fiction and these three categories enable us to develop our minds analytically through the precious works of great authors . Literature makes such authors alive to us ;we feel like conversing with them once we read their works. in other words we may see the world through the eyes of different writers from different cultures and in turn learn the ways to deal with things happening around us . It's a way of understanding human nature .Thus, we should be cherishing such a treasure instead of thiking about replacing it .

Literature should not be replaced, because it helps develop reading and writing skill very much, it should rather be changed to our own literatures taught in English, instead of teaching mainstream european and american literaure in the curricula, it better for every country to teach their own literature as part of the English language course.
