you may have a strongly competent boss , and sometimes you are more competent, smarter but he is the boss , you "incurred" him , so just accept him, respect him and always remember that he is your boss :(
It does not really matter. Work is not a competition about who is the smartest. People that think that way have an individual problem that they need to overcome to be able to progress. Maybe their boss can help them to do so.

Its a Business Culture and general culture issue, in high concept culture most of people focus in personal details rathar than work instructions, and most of them do have this attitude tawerds their hirarchical superior and even their colleagues, in lowconcept culture, peaple focus on contracats and instructions and work details, theis join and if they disagree with it they will leave the company but never seek to change the boss, they change their company
Lets define what you mean by SMART; in looks, taking prompt decisions, managing well with senior management, excellent in negotiations, assertiveness?
No two individuals on earth have exactly the same expertise and skills; some talents are in built, by birth (inherited from parents, like performing arts, certain sports, etc). and some you learn from training and regular practise.
In short, it is not wise to have a camparison with YOUR BOSS; who has the authority, responsibility and accountability more than what YOU have. Even if you feels that you are a Genius; then be humble and modest in all your approach and dealings with your Boss.

in my opinion, You can't compare smart people even between employee the reason is there is a different scale to measure that so someone can be so smart in finance but not creative with ideas so you can't just say you are smarter than someone .. because he can be better than you in other ability or skills.but you may say you can do this job better than someone.
Many people think they are smarter than their managers and sometimes this is true! It is often a mistake because I care about is I look at the senior management of the person, so do not concern yourself who the smartest served yourself to work until you consider the Supreme eyes and they will decide who is the smartest. Think of success
it is not important to know who is the smarter
BUT
the most important is to make an integrated team work
it depends , if my boss have physical good experience then he / she is really the boss , But if he /she just in that place for any other reasons ( Like he / she is relative to any managers / or is one in the family of the boards ) then i Must work hard to gain more experince whatever he / she is smarter than me or not in order to be qaulified for looking to other job ASAP.
We should not loose sight of the fact that, Managers are employed not the obvious reasons and they work hard.
