You use it for answering Descriptive, Diagnosis, predictive, and Prescriptive analytics. 

There are three types of data cross data, time series data and panel data ehich is mix of the first two types. 

1- You have to apply data preprocessing to all these type of data in order to check the data quality, to handle missing values and data anomalies.

2- Descriptive and Exploratory data analysis.

3- You should know that statistical analysis is not equal data analysis. Data analysis  comprise  statistics, operations research and decision support systems, simulation and forecasting. Forecasting is on the top because it is used for strategic purpose.

Operation research for optimization.

Decision support can be used for certain and uncertain analysis.

Forecasting is used in CRM analysis check for Hidden Markov to analyze market share.

Simulation to check for the proposed offer Monte Carlo Simulation or bootstrap can be used.

4- Data mining classification, clustering and association rules(basket analysis). to handle real data and verylarge and big data.  

Association rules is used for offers and offers analysis. 

5- Text mining for openion analysis. 

6- Artificial intelligence and machine learning.

7- Information visualization. 

8- Data Warehousing for analysing historical data.

9- GIS analysis for demographic analysis

Simply check the Porter's Five Forces and see they are all about information and data. If you want to be a better marketing and sales person, you need to gather information and data as much as you can, put them all together, analyse it and see if you need to speed up, change, reduce down the rate or even stop. 

So for Increasing sales you can get the data through online questionaire from the peoples what the want and getting the data from the existing stores or what ever the related sales so you can get the data from it . you can check your previous year record and then the on those product you can take a 20% sales on it .
