Make it simple without over decoration and layout should be professional. Try to include all key points in the first page itself briefing your experience (durations only), qualifications, Career Summary, Skills Set, etc. The details can be continued in the following pages. Better to limit your CV in a maximum of 3 pages.
From my point of view, originality is the best approach to make one's CV stand out from others. Imagine a recruitment officer who's going through hundreds of CV's daily, to which surprisingly all comes in the same boring format. Of course a different layout CV will be an eye-catcher. At least by this point your CV have already been segregated from the others. The next step would be how you portray your Job experience and qualifications. You can be creative in how to publish these attributes in your CV (use infographics for instance), but dont put too much graphics as it may shround the details which you want to showcase. Focus on your core competencies and experience and make it simple yet effective. A lot of candidates make common mistakes which can lead to immediate rejection such as spelling errors, unnecessary info, CV too long etc. Once you have drafted a CV, ask your HR friends and colleagues to give their thoughts. Last but not least, make sure you convert your CV to PDF format before sending. A lot of companies do not prefer CVs in word format.
1. Make it legible
2. Highlight your qualification and experience
3. Talk about your strength and career objective
4. Give all information but in brief
5. Last be confident that your cv is the best
