A method for allocating IP addresses and routing Internet Protocol packets is known as Classless Inter-Domain Routing or CIDR.
For example :
172.200.0.0/12
An IP network prefix of /12, for example, can be used to address 1,048,576 former Class C addresses.

CIDR : CLASSLESS INTERDOMAIN ROUTING
CLASSLESS MEANS THAT :THE ROUTING PROTOCOL CANNOT IDENTIFY THE CLASS OF THE SUBNET SO WE MUST INCLUDE THE SUBNET MASK IN ANY CONFIGURATION
SUPPERNETTING: SUBNETTING THE SUBNET

Short for Classless Inter-Domain Routing, an IP addressing scheme that replaces the older system based on classes A, B, and C. With CIDR, a single IP address can be used to designate many unique IP addresses. A CIDR IP address looks like a normal IP address except that it ends with a slash followed by a number, called the IP network prefix. For example:
172.200.0.0/16
The IP network prefix specifies how many addresses are covered by the CIDR address, with lower numbers covering more addresses. An IP network prefix of /12, for example, can be used to address 1,048,576 former Class C addresses.
CIDR addresses reduce the size of routing tables and make more IP addresses available within organizations.
CIDR is also called supernetting.

CIDR:is classless inter domain routing
it combines addresses of alot of networks at single network address
advantages : reduce information on routing table
ex:
three are three networks ip of first network 192.168.1.0/24 and second 192.168.2.0/24
and third 192.168.3.0/24 these three network connected to route these network addresses
combines to on network ip that is 192.168.0.0/16 these ip address that be in routing table
in route

in route supneting ip

One thing here confusing me as you mentioned "A CIDR IP address looks like a normal IP address except that it ends with a slash followed by a number, called the IP network prefix. For example:
172.200.0.0/16" but here mentioned Network ID instead of IP Address. May we write this like just here giving your an example may be when sub-netted then may be something else but here just e.g. 172.200.0.1/16. Here bit going in detail let suppose we 5 or 6 address in the said mentioned 172.200.0.1/16
CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing) was introduced in 1993 (RCF 1517) replacing the previous generation of IP address syntax - classful networks. CIDR allowed for more efficient use of IPv4 address space and prefix aggregation, known as route summarization or supernetting.
CIDR introduction allowed for:
More efficient use of IPv4 address space
Prefix aggregation, which reduced the size of routing tables
CIDR allows routers to group routes together to reduce the bulk of routing information carried by the core routers. With CIDR, several IP networks appear to networks outside the group as a single, larger entity. With CIDR, IP addresses and their subnet masks are written as four octets, separated by periods, followed by a forward slash and a two-digit number that represents the subnet mask e.g.
10.1.1.0/30
172.16.1.16/28
192.168.1.32/27 etc.
