Hydroponics or soil-less culture is a technology for growing plants in nutrient solutions that supply all nutrient elements needed for optimum plant growth with or without the use of an inert medium such as gravel, vermiculite, rockwool, peat moss, saw dust, coir dust, coconut fibre, etc. to provide mechanical support.
Vertical farming means the food growing vertical farming in the cities can be powered by its own infrastructure. Here are some educational videos showing some benefits of this neglected and critically needed technology.
Thank you very much my brother for the insights you gave us on the issue raised. As you mentioned above, high tech agriculture is expanding in most urban areas. The purpose of High tech agriculture is aimed at producing sufficient food to meet the ever increasing global demand and food prices. The prevailing shortage and ever increasing prices can be controlled through increased productivity and shortening growing period of crops. The hydroponic as well as vertical agriculture are designed for improved production system. In the hydroponic system, the cultivation is carried out using fertigation to supply water and nutrient around the root zone persistently as ther is no soil as medium to support root system. Both vertical and hydroponic involves growing of crops under greenhouse. The possibility of prevalence of pests and/or insects is almost little as the growing condition is controlled by the greenhouse. Time and resource used to efficiently supply water and nutirent to obtain optimum growth and finally production (quantity and quality). As a result, productivity is enhanced and the quality of produces is improved.
