To ensure your handover goes smoothly -Put yourself in the position of your successors - what would you want or need to know? - Think about (or find out) the specific experience and knowledge of the person you are handing over to and tailor your handover accordingly. -Use clear systems and records throughout your year to store information to make it easier to handover -If there is a lot of knowledge that only exists in your head make sure you get it all down on paper before you handover - Clarify what is definite, and what is your personal interpretation - Acknowledge that it is up to the new committee if they choose to do things differently or take a different direction. Once the handover is complete, stand back and let them get on with it

Alowing plenty of time for the handover to be done thoroughly. More often than not, a handover is rushed and critical information is missed. Also make sure the person being handed over too has the right ability, don't push the position onto someone not capable.
Make sure that the person handing over has a very well written and clear handover book with all the tasks detailed so mistakes cannot be made and are not left open to interpretation

Each and every aspects of the handover should be looked throughly and judged on the pratical basis. There should be no room for error. Even silly mistake can create an enormous trouble. A person who is more than capable is fit for the position but there will be a question about his or her hunger for achievements. A person with hunger for acheivements with right tools can be a great successor .
