If a doctor gives you 3 pills and tells you to take one pill every half hour, how long would it be before all the pills had been taken?

To answer the question for married couples only

I'm confused there is no such pill..each half hour the patient should take a pill !! let me think only3 pills in one day ...I think every8 hours the patient should take one pill ..I need to know what is this medicine first and make sure that the doctor knows what he is prescribing

One immediately and one each every half an hour as then two left should be1 hour as everyone said. 

In case he doesnt take it immediately one then add half an hour more.
