you meaning star - delta connection ,it's aconnection to protect the motors against starting current , that current very high because if the torque increase the current will be increase , we used that application in more than 5.5 or7.5 kw ,and also we used that apllication star-delta connection because current in negma connection low than delta connection ,so we start by negma connection to protect and limited starting current .

If you mean star-delta switch, it is a rotary switching device composed of shifting contacts used as an integral part in the manual control of Wye-to-Delta starting of large squirrel cage induction motors. Wye-to-Delta motor start is implied for reduced voltage starting and minimize the starting current. We just have to closely monitor the RPM, it should be near rated value before switching to shift-over from Wye connected stator winding to Delta because switching earlier can cause inrush current and sudden change in torque that might burden your motor and activate its protection.
